One of the signature rivalries in Rhode Island high school sports is renewed once again tonight, as the LaSalle Academy Rams invade Pepin Gym in what looks to be a tough, grind-it out hardwood battle. While our guys have had their struggles this year but continue to improve (8-8 overall, 7-5 in D-1 action), LaSalle is having an exceptional season, as they come to Hendricken with a 12-6 overall record, 11-2 in the RIIL, and standing at #2 in the power rankings and leading Division 1 North.
La Salle is averaging 64 ppg and holding opponents to 51. The Rams are led by senior guard Jared Thompson (14ppg) and Junior forward Dexter Thompson (11ppg, 7rpg). Junior guards Damon Gomes and Adrian LaFleur both average 7ppg, providing the Rams with a well balanced offensive attack.
The young Hawks have been one of the top defensive teams in the state all season, holding teams to just 47 points per game. They've been led by a consistent trio all season: seniors Will Tavares (13ppg), Kazre Cummings (10 ppg, 7-8 rpg), and Ryan Hagerty (9 ppg, 6 rpg).
Enjoy.
